PARIS: Jordanian boxer Ziad Ashish has secured a place in the round of 16 for the under-71 kg weight category at the Paris Olympics. Ashish achieved this milestone after a hard-fought victory against Kazakhstan’s Aslanbek Shymbergenov. The match, held on Sunday, was a significant redemption for Ashish, who had previously been defeated by Shymbergenov. This time, Ashish emerged victorious with a narrow 3-2 decision from the judges.
Ashish, who is competing in his second Olympic Games, will now face Japan’s Okazawa Sewon in the next round. Their bout is scheduled for Wednesday, and it promises to be a crucial test for Ashish as he aims to continue his impressive performance and advance further in the tournament.

His opponent will be France’s Sofiane Oumiha. Al-Kasbeh had an impressive start to his Olympic campaign, having secured a victory over Ireland’s Dean Clancy in his opening match on Saturday.
