Ryan Garcia has expressed confusion over why Devin Haney has not returned to the ring since their one-sided encounter on April 20th. Garcia, who won the fight with a dominant performance, noted that Haney, the former two-division world champion, does not seem “eager” to fight again.
Some observers believe that Garcia’s victory over Haney may have had a lasting mental impact on his opponent, with some even suggesting that the loss could derail Haney’s career. Garcia, who dropped Haney four times during their bout, believes the result was so one-sided that it could be difficult for Haney to fully recover.
“I didn’t respect anything Devin threw. Anytime I wanted to land, I did,” Garcia said in an interview with Fighthype, reflecting on his April win. “I don’t know where his head is at, but he doesn’t seem eager to get back in the ring.”
Garcia continued by questioning Haney’s motivation, adding, “I haven’t heard anything from him. His dad keeps talking, but I don’t know if that’s helping. If things don’t change, I might have to deal with Bill [Haney, Devin’s father].”
Garcia’s comments come at a time when Haney has been notably absent from the ring, raising questions about his future in the sport after suffering such a heavy defeat. As Garcia prepares for future bouts, the focus on Haney’s next move continues to draw attention, with many wondering if he will be able to recover from the crushing defeat or if it will impact his career long term.
