Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has officially embarked on his new chapter with Ferrari, expressing excitement and optimism as his tenure with the Italian team began on January 1. At nearly 40 years old, Hamilton joins Ferrari with a message of embracing change and chasing new challenges.
“Moving to Scuderia Ferrari, there’s a lot to reflect on,” Hamilton shared in a LinkedIn post, marking his first comments since the move. “To anyone considering their next step in 2025: embrace the change. Reinvention is powerful, and your next opportunity is always within reach.”
Hamilton accompanied his message with a childhood photo of himself karting, wearing a red helmet that echoes Ferrari’s iconic color. His arrival at Ferrari creates what many consider the strongest driver pairing on the grid, teaming up with Charles Leclerc. The duo inherits a car and team that ended 2024 in impressive form, narrowly missing out on the constructors’ title to McLaren.
Leclerc, the standout performer in the latter half of 2024, outscored every driver from the Dutch Grand Prix onwards, hinting at Ferrari’s potential in 2025. With Hamilton now in the mix, expectations are high.
Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur emphasized the importance of Hamilton’s early integration. “The first six weeks are critical,” said Vasseur. “But Lewis brings unparalleled experience. While it’s a challenge, I have no doubt he’ll adapt swiftly, especially with the continuity of current regulations.”
Hamilton will prepare for the season by visiting Ferrari’s factory, driving their simulator, and testing a 2023 car. The 2025 Ferrari car is set for its unveiling on February 19, a day after Formula 1’s season launch at London’s O2 Arena. Official pre-season testing begins in Bahrain on February 26, with Hamilton and Leclerc splitting track time equally.
The new season kicks off in Melbourne, Australia, on March 14-16, with Ferrari poised for a fierce championship battle against McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes. As Hamilton begins this fresh chapter, fans and pundits alike will watch closely to see if his addition can propel Ferrari to the pinnacle of Formula 1 once again.
