Ferrari has announced that Loic Serra will assume the role of Technical Director of Chassis starting next month. Serra, who was previously with Mercedes as Performance Director, will step into this key position at Maranello, taking over from Enrico Cardile.

Serra’s move to Ferrari was first confirmed earlier this year, alongside his colleague Jerome D’Ambrosio, who is set to join Ferrari as Deputy Team Principal. Ferrari appointed Serra as Head of Chassis Performance Engineering, where he initially reported to Cardile, after he joined Mercedes in 2018. However, with Cardile’s recent appointment as Chief Technical Officer at Aston Martin, Serra will now take on the role of Technical Director of Chassis.

In his new role, Serra will oversee all aspects of Ferrari’s chassis operations, including project engineering, vehicle performance, aerodynamics, and track engineering. He will report directly to Ferrari’s Team Principal, Frederic Vasseur.

Serra began his Formula 1 career with Michelin, where he worked as a Quality Engineer and designed a new suspension system for F1, pitching it to customer teams in 2002. He later joined BMW Sauber as a Suspension Engineer. When Mercedes acquired the Brawn GP team in 2010, Serra joined as Chief Engineer for Vehicle Engineering and advanced to Head of Vehicle Dynamics in 2013. He took on the role of Chief Vehicle Dynamicist in 2016 and earned the position of Performance Director at the end of the 2018 season.

Serra will depart from Mercedes at the end of this month, concluding a distinguished 15-year tenure with the team. Ferrari expects his extensive experience and expertise to bring significant benefits to their chassis development as the team looks to enhance its competitive edge.
