Perez and Tsunoda Penalized for Unsafe Pit Releases

Perez’s penalty stemmed from being released in an unsafe manner, forcing Fernando Alonso to take evasive action. Adding to the severity of the incident, Perez left the pits when a red light was displayed, indicating that it was unsafe to do so. Consequently, stewards imposed the penalty along with one penalty point.

Similarly, Tsunoda faced repercussions for an unsafe release during the reconnaissance lap. Which saw him exit the garage unsafely into the path of Lando Norris. Although Tsunoda apologized for the oversight, the penalty was still imposed, albeit without an additional penalty point due to the timing of the incident.

Of particular concern is Perez’s accumulation of penalty points, bringing him to 8 within the last 12 months. With just 4 points away from a race ban, Perez must exercise caution to avoid further penalties. Previous incidents, including collisions with Alex Albon, Fernando Alonso, Kevin Magnussen, and Lando Norris, have contributed to this tally.

Reflecting on the penalty, Perez expressed disappointment but acknowledged that it did not significantly impact his race. However, he suggested the need for a wider pit lane to prevent similar incidents in the future.
