Mercedes-Benz and Williams Racing Extend Power-Unit Partnership to 2030

Williams Confirms Multi-Year Deal for Mercedes Power Units from 2026 Onward

In a joint announcement today, Mercedes-Benz and Williams Racing have sealed a deal that will see Mercedes continue to supply power units to the Grove-based F1 team until at least 2030.

Confirming the extension, Williams Racing disclosed Mercedes-Benz as their Power Unit supplier starting from the 2026 Formula One season. This agreement marks Williams as the second customer team under Mercedes for the upcoming power unit regulations scheduled to debut in 2026.

Since the advent of the V6 hybrid era in 2014, Williams has been fueled by Mercedes-Benz. The renewed partnership signifies an extension into the new engine regulations, emphasizing sustainability with 100% sustainable fuel usage, stringent eco-friendly standards, and reduced overall fuel consumption. The future power units will feature extended electrical systems, including a single 350 kW electric motor, nearly three times more potent than the current MGU-K, while adhering to cost cap regulations.

Williams’ Team Principal, James Vowles, expressed enthusiasm about the prolonged collaboration, citing Mercedes’ expertise, support, and technology alignment with the team’s future aspirations. Vowles high lighted the agreement as a strategic move while affirming Williams’ retention of in-house design and manufacturing capabilities.

Toto Wolff, Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport, shared his excitement, confirming Williams Racing as the second recipient of their power units for the 2026 regulations. Wolff underscored the enduring partnership’s strength, recognizing Williams’ efforts to position themselves at the forefront of the grid. He reiterated Mercedes’ commitment to supporting Williams’ ambitions with their power unit supply.

The extended partnership solidifies both Mercedes-Benz and Williams Racing’s commitment to mutual growth, technological innovation, and sustained competitiveness in Formula 1’s ever-evolving landscape.
