Prema Racing has announced that Gabriele Minì will step into the team’s Formula 2 seat for the upcoming Baku Grand Prix, taking over from Ferrari junior driver Oliver Bearman.
Minì, a 19-year-old Italian talent, will make his debut in the FIA Formula 2 Championship after finishing as the runner-up in the FIA Formula 3 Championship. His promotion to Formula 2 comes as Bearman advances to Formula 1.
Minì’s association with Prema began in 2020 when he made his debut in car racing with the Italian Formula 4 Championship, securing a winning start. He then progressed through the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine and the FIA Formula 3 Championship, returning to Prema for the 2023 Macau Grand Prix and continuing with the team full-time for the 2024 FIA F3 season.
Prema Racing team principal René Rosin expressed enthusiasm about Minì’s promotion: “We are thrilled to see Gabriele make his FIA Formula 2 debut. It’s particularly rewarding to witness his progression from his first steps with our team in 2020 to this next significant milestone. This opportunity will be beneficial for both Gabriele and the team. We also wish Oliver Bearman the best in his second Formula 1 race and look forward to his return later in the season.”
Reflecting on his upcoming debut, Minì said: “I am very excited to join Prema Racing for the FIA Formula 2 event in Baku. We’ve had a strong 2024 season and fought for the title until the final corner. Transitioning to Formula 2 is a crucial step for me, and this early opportunity at Baku is invaluable. It will allow me to gain experience with the new car and the series.”
Minì’s debut in Baku marks a significant step in his racing career, and fans will be keen to see how he performs in the premier junior single-seater series.
