Following their second win of the year, Ferrari continued their on-track activities by completing a two-day test for Pirelli on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Scuderia secured a controlled victory at last Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix, with Charles Leclerc dominating practice sessions, qualifying, and the race. While Carlos Sainz initially struggled during practice, he managed to improve his pace in qualifying to secure third on the grid, maintaining that position in the race.
With the next race in Montreal next weekend, the two drivers didn’t rest after the Monte Carlo round. Instead, they headed to the Le Castellet circuit, which is relatively close to Monaco, to assist Pirelli in their future tyre development.
On the first day, Sainz drove Ferrari’s 2024 F1 car, the SF-24, on the circuit. The Spaniard tested different compounds that Pirelli intends to introduce for next year. The Le Castellet circuit has been a favored test track in recent decades and has hosted the French Grand Prix in recent years.
On Wednesday, Leclerc took to the track, using the 3.523km configuration of the multi-purpose circuit. Despite the nice weather conditions, the track was artificially watered with the circuit’s irrigation system to accurately reproduce the conditions required for running on wet and intermediate tyres.
This test is part of a series of runs Pirelli has conducted this year, with in-season tyre development testing also taking place in Barcelona, Jerez de la Frontera, and Suzuka.
