Ferrari is swiftly implementing its latest upgrades for the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix in a bid to rebound from a disappointing performance in Canada.
Ahead of the formal confirmation in the FIA submission document prior to the opening free practice session, Ferrari’s new modifications to its side pods, ‘Cobra’ winglets alongside the cockpit, and rear wing are already visually striking.
Following a lackluster showing in Canada that resulted in a double DNF, Ferrari is focusing on significant alterations to its side pods. The team has reshape the under cut and beltline, creating more space between them and the upper surface of the floor. These changes not only enhance performance immediately but also lay ground work for upcoming developments, including a new floor in development for future races.
The updated ‘Cobra’ winglets have been optimized with increased height, extending around the rear leg of the halo’s fairing. This adjustment alters airflow dynamics and vortex patterns, aiming to improve overall aerodynamic efficiency.
In addition, Ferrari has introduced a medium high down force rear wing for the Barcelona race, aiming to strike a balance between the high down force setup used in Monaco and the medium downforce configuration from Imola. The design team has tailored the main plane and upper flap to optimize down force levels while considering the impact on DRS performance during operation.
Continued development efforts focus on refining the shape of the main plane, endplate radius, outer flap support position, and endplate cutout. These refinements are crucial as Ferrari aims to maximize aerodynamic performance and competitiveness at the upcoming Grand Prix.
