Fernando Alonso Tips Ferrari as Favorites for Italy and Singapore Grand Prix Amid Aston Martin’s Struggles

Fernando Alonso has made an intriguing prediction about Ferrari’s prospects in the upcoming Formula 1 races, suggesting that the Maranello-based team will be the car to beat in Italy and Singapore.

Ferrari enjoyed a strong start to the season, securing two victories in the first eight races and often proving to be Red Bull’s nearest competitor. However, recent developments have seen Ferrari lose ground as McLaren and Mercedes have made notable advancements.

The next race on the calendar is the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, Ferrari’s home event, followed by the Singapore Grand Prix, a street circuit with characteristics similar to Monaco, where Ferrari secured a victory earlier this season.

Alonso, who has closely observed the current competitive landscape, believes Ferrari is poised for a strong performance in these upcoming rounds.

“I think the top four teams, with maybe Mercedes being a bit inconsistent, are all podium contenders every weekend. For the next two races, excluding the Azerbaijan Grand Prix between them, Ferrari should be the car to beat,” Alonso said.

He pointed to Ferrari’s performance last year at Monza and Singapore, along with Charles Leclerc’s Monaco win this year, as indicators of their potential dominance. “Considering what we saw last year and Leclerc’s win in Monaco this year, I believe Ferrari will emerge as the favorites for Singapore,” Alonso added.

Aston Martin’s Recent Struggles

Alonso, who finished 10th at the Dutch Grand Prix, expressed disappointment with his team’s performance. The result, while earning a single point, did not reflect the car’s true pace throughout the race.

Alonso admitted, “Given the pace we had, even one point is probably a bit too much.” “But we did a good job in qualifying, starting in P7, which allowed us to score that point.”

He acknowledged that Aston Martin has been struggling to keep up with some midfield teams and emphasized the need for improvement. “We need to get better. There have been a few races where we have struggled to match the pace of the midfield. We need to understand why and make necessary improvements.”

As the F1 season progresses, Ferrari and Aston Martin will both be aiming to address their challenges and capitalize on their opportunities in the upcoming races.
