Albon Banks on Mercedes’ 2026 Engine Edge to Boost Williams’ Future

Williams driver Alexander Albon has extended his contract with the team, placing his faith in both Williams’ long-term vision and Mercedes’ ability to dominate the upcoming engine regulation shift in 2026.

Hoping for a Mercedes Repeat:

Albon, who joined Williams in 2022, signed a multi-year extension solidifying his place with the team for the next regulation era. He’s optimistic that Mercedes, known for excelling during regulation changes (like in 2014), will deliver another top-performing power unit in 2026.

“For sure it is,” Albon said regarding Mercedes’ potential edge. “They seem to be one step ahead of their rivals.”

While acknowledging other teams’ efforts, Albon highlights the potential advantage of a proven powerhouse like Mercedes, especially considering the significant investments other midfield teams might need to make for the new era.

Looking Beyond Immediate Results:

Albon acknowledges the team’s current development phase. While he strives for immediate success, he recognizes the importance of the long-term vision instilled by Williams’ team boss James Vowles since his arrival in 2023.

“I know that this year is not going to be easy for us,” Albon admits. “But when the regulation changes, that’s really when you get the fruits of your hard work.”

This extension reflects a shift in Williams’ strategy, moving from short-term goals to a more sustainable, long-term plan. Albon believes this, combined with a potential Mercedes advantage in 2026, positions Williams for a brighter future.
