Jack Doohan to Make F1 Debut for Alpine in Abu Dhabi, Esteban Ocon Out

Alpine has confirmed that Jack Doohan will make his Formula 1 debut for the team at the season-closing Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, with Esteban Ocon stepping aside for the final race of the season.

The decision follows ongoing discussions between Ocon and Alpine regarding his participation in the race, as reported by Autosport after the Qatar Grand Prix. Despite a podium finish in Brazil, Ocon has faced difficulties in recent races, prompting talks about both his future with the team and Alpine’s preparations for the 2025 season.

By giving Doohan the chance to race in Abu Dhabi, Alpine aims to provide the 20-year-old Australian with valuable experience ahead of his full-time seat next year. At the same time, this move allows Ocon to start preparations for his future with Haas, as the Frenchman will also take part in the post-season tyre test in Abu Dhabi, driving for his new team.

Alpine confirmed the change in a press release, explaining that Ocon’s release for the test aligns with the team’s strategy and benefits both drivers. Team Principal Oliver Oakes spoke about the mutually beneficial nature of the decision, saying, “It suits everybody. Esteban has been a big part of this team, and moving on early is good for him, while it gives Jack the chance to settle in with the team.”

Doohan’s debut in Abu Dhabi will serve as a critical opportunity for him to acclimatize to Formula 1, gaining experience ahead of his full-time role next season. In addition to racing, Doohan will also participate in the post-season Abu Dhabi test, further boosting his preparations for the 2024 campaign.

This strategic change marks an important step in Alpine’s driver lineup transition, with both Ocon and Doohan set to play key roles in the team’s future plans.
