West Ham felt aggrieved in injury time when they were denied what they believed to be a clear penalty after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review for a potential handball by Noah Weisshaupt. Manager David Moyes expressed his frustration, stating, “I believe it’s a penalty kick… It was harsh on us.”
Despite the disappointment, West Ham had opportunities to take the lead earlier in the match. Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta both failed to convert chances from Mohammed Kudus crosses. While Bowen’s curling effort was well saved by Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu.
