Italy manager Luciano Spalletti remains uncertain about his starting lineup for upcoming UEFA Nations League match against Israel on Monday. As he prepares for a home encounter in Udine, Spalletti acknowledges the threats posed by the Israeli team, which he considers a formidable opponent.
Currently, Italy sits atop Group A2, just one point ahead of France, who recently secured a 4-1 victory over Israel. Despite this advantageous position, Spalletti emphasized the need for caution, urging his players to avoid any mistakes against a side capable of causing problems.
“I don’t know exactly who will start because it’s a very delicate game with many hidden dangers,” Spalletti said during a news conference on Sunday. He confirmed that Guglielmo Vicario would take over in goal for Gianluigi Donnarumma. Indicating a tactical shift for the crucial match.
“Israel is a good team that can play football, so we must maintain our balance and organization. I hope our team can take control of the game,” he added, highlighting the importance of a disciplined performance.
Italy previously faced Israel in Budapest, where they secured 2-1 win thanks to goals from Davide Frattesi and Moise Kean. However, Spalletti anticipates a different approach from their opponents in this upcoming fixture.

“Israel won’t have the same attitude they showed against us or with France. At times, they sit deep and wait; at others, they try to press,” he remarked.
The Italian side comes into this match after a disappointing 2-2 draw against Belgium, where they squandered a two-goal lead. The match turned after Lorenzo Pellegrini was sent off late in the first half for a foul on Arthur Theate.
“The team is working hard, sweating for the shirt, and sacrificing themselves,” Spalletti said. “However, we learned that in football, one incident can ruin all good-work, so we must always learn from our mistakes.”
As Italy prepares for this pivotal match, Spalletti’s decisions will be crucial in determining whether they can extend their lead at the top of Group A2 and secure a vital victory against a dangerous Israel side.
