In an exciting repeat of the 2023 Women’s World Cup final, Spain and England were drawn into the same group for the 2025 UEFA Women’s Nations League, set to begin in February. The two teams, who faced off in Sydney for the World Cup title, will be joined by Belgium and Portugal in Group A, with matches scheduled between February 19 and June 3, 2025.
Spain claimed victory in the World Cup final with a 1-0 win over England, though the match was overshadowed by post-game controversy involving Luis Rubiales, then-president of the Spanish football federation. Rubiales, who has since been banned for three years by FIFA, is set to have his appeal heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Friday.
In the other top-tier Nations League groups, Euro 2022 runners-up Germany were placed alongside the Netherlands, Austria, and Scotland, while France was drawn into a group with Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland. Switzerland will also host the Euro 2025 tournament in July.
Italy will compete in Group B with Denmark, Sweden, and Wales.
The top team from each of the four groups will advance to the semifinals, which will be played over two legs in October. The Nations League final will take place across two legs on November 26 and December 2, 2025.
Spain enters the 2025 Nations League as the defending champions, having triumphed in the inaugural final against France in February 2024.
The results from these group stages will not only determine the Nations League finalists but will also play a crucial role in the rankings that will be used for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying draw.
