Currently, Geoff Brown, the owner of St Johnstone, is in discussions with an American consortium regarding a potential sale of the club.
The Brown family has maintained a majority stake in the club since 1986 and oversaw its relocation from Muirton Park to its current home at McDiarmid Park. Additionally, St Johnstone possesses a significant parcel of land surrounding the stadium, adding complexity to the potential sale negotiations.
While takeover talks are ongoing, it remains uncertain whether a specific deadline for reaching a deal has been established. Brown had previously announced his intention to find a buyer for his controlling interest in December 2022, with the proceeds from the sale earmarked for the development of a community hub for the St Johnstone community trust.

If the negotiations with the US consortium prove successful, St Johnstone would join Dundee and Hibernian as Scottish Premiership clubs under American ownership. American businessman Tim Keyes acquired Dundee in 2013, while the late Ron Gordon purchased a controlling interest in Hibernian in 2019. Additionally, there are expectations that the club’s upcoming annual general meeting will approve Bill Foley’s bid for a 25% stake in Hibs.
Dundee United, currently leading the Championship, also boasts American majority ownership, with Mark Ogren acquiring an 85% stake in late 2018.
St Johnstone has been a mainstay in the Premiership since 2009, enjoying success with two Scottish Cup victories and one League Cup triumph in the past decade. Under the leadership of Craig Levein, the team currently holds the 10th position in the division and has a scheduled match against St Mirren on Saturday.
