Oscar Mingueza has emerged as one of the standout performers in the early stages of the 2024-25 La Liga season. The 25-year-old defender has been impressive, scoring two goals and providing three assists in just five appearances. His contributions place him joint-third for the most goal involvements across the entire league, sparking widespread interest.

Mingueza’s excellent form has naturally led to speculation about his future, with rumors circulating about a possible return to Barcelona. Reports suggested that the Catalan club had a buy-back option for the defender, believed to be around €9 million.
However, Celta Vigo’s director of football, Marco Garces, firmly dismissed these claims during a press conference on Thursday, as reported by Diario AS. Garces clarified the situation, stating, “Barcelona have a right of first refusal and 50% of a subsequent sale. They do not have a right of re-purchase.” This statement confirms that while Barcelona may have a say in any future sale of Mingueza, they do not have an option to buy him back directly.
Garces also addressed the future of veteran forward Iago Aspas, whose contract with Celta Vigo is set to expire at the end of the season. He confirmed that the club is open to extending Aspas’ stay, saying, “He will play with us for as long as he wants. We made him an open invitation to start talks.”
