Schweinsteiger Criticizes Man Utd’s Decision to Sack Van Gaal, Citing Setback in Progress

Bastian Schweinsteiger has voiced his belief that Manchester United’s decision to sack Louis van Gaal had a significant negative impact, setting the club back “years.”

Van Gaal’s tenure at Old Trafford lasted two seasons, from 2015 to 2017, and concluded shortly after winning the FA Cup against Crystal Palace.

The subsequent managerial changes, with Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick, and now Erik ten Hag. Have led Schweinsteiger, who was signed by Van Gaal, to criticize the decision to replace him.

Reflecting on his time at Manchester United in an interview with FourFourTwo. Schweinsteiger highlighted the club’s stature and the experience of playing alongside iconic figures like Wayne Rooney. Michael Carrick, and Ashley Young.

Expressing his thoughts on Van Gaal’s tenure, Schweinsteiger suggested that the Dutchman’s desire to implement changes at the club could have borne fruit earlier had there been more trust in his vision. He believes that the decision to remove Van Gaal hindered the club’s progress significantly.

During their time together at Old Trafford, Schweinsteiger made 31 appearances under Van Gaal, scoring one goal. He lamented his injury during a period when Manchester United was vying for the Premier League title. Suggesting that they could have clinched the trophy under Van Gaal’s leadership.

Having previously played under Van Gaal at Bayern Munich, where they achieved Bundesliga and German Cup success. Schweinsteiger credited the Dutchman for instilling tactical discipline and laying the groundwork for football fundamentals at the club.
