Ruben Amorim Acknowledges Mistake in West Ham Talks Following Liverpool Plan Setback

Ruben Amorim has expressed regret for engaging in talks with West Ham, admitting that his recent trip to London was a “mistake.”

The highly sought-after head coach of Sporting Lisbon has been the subject of speculation regarding potential opportunities across Europe, including roles in the Premier League.

Despite being heavily linked with succeeding Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, Amorim traveled to the UK for discussions with West Ham earlier this week. However, he has now conceded that it was inappropriate, despite Sporting’s approval.

Speaking on Saturday in Portugal, as reported by Ojogo, Amorim stated: “Let’s address the elephant in the room. Firstly, the club was aware of my trip, which is crucial and changes the context. Then, there’s the issue of secrecy surrounding the trip.

Arne Slot is now set to step in as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement at Liverpool.

I did not sneak around. My trip was a mistake, the timing was completely wrong. It didn’t feel right at the time. It was wrong, especially considering my own high standards with my players.”

Amid speculation in Portugal that his move to meet with West Ham was a strategic ploy to pressure Liverpool. Who were reportedly considering him for their managerial position. The Reds have since commenced talks with Feyenoord head coach Arne-Slot, who is now set to take charge at Anfield.
