Willian has completed a surprise transfer to Greek side Olympiacos, marking a dramatic turn from his previous decision last summer. The 36-year-old winger, formerly of Arsenal and Chelsea, had been on the brink of joining Nottingham Forest before changing course and remaining at Fulham for an additional year.
Last summer, Willian was poised to move from Fulham to Forest, with an arrangement to subsequently join Olympiacos, owned by Evangelos Marinakis who also owns Forest. Despite undergoing a medical with Forest, Willian decided to stay at Craven Cottage for the 2022-23 season. During that campaign, he made 31 Premier League appearances, scoring four goals and providing two assists.
After departing Fulham as a free agent this summer, Willian has now fulfilled the move to Olympiacos. Who secured their place in the Europa League by winning the 2023-24 Europa Conference League.
In a heartfelt farewell to Fulham, Willian expressed his gratitude: “I would like to thank Fulham for a wonderful two years,” he wrote in August. “It was special to return to the Premier League and be part of this historic club and the amazing fans. I have had incredible moments, and this club will always be in my heart. I thank Tony Khan, the chairman, and the Fulham board for their respect and affection over the last two years. A very special thank you to our coach Marco Silva, who showed me a lot of belief and gave me confidence throughout our time together. I wish Fulham the best of luck in their upcoming challenges and hope to support the team live in future.”

Upon completing his move to Olympiacos, Willian shared his excitement with the club’s media: “It’s an amazing feeling for me, and I just want to say thank God, thanks to my family for their support, and also thanks to the owner who has always been incredible with me. We have a great relationship, and now I’m really happy to be here. I can’t wait to start training and playing with the team.”
Willian acknowledged Olympiacos’ ambitions: “This is a club with a great ambition to achieve more. I know they had a fantastic achievement last season by winning the Conference League. And I’m here to be a part of that success. I’m fully motivated to contribute to the team’s future victories.”
Describing the club’s facilities and people as “top-notch,” Willian expressed his eagerness to begin this new chapter in his career. Stating he is excited and ready to make an impact at Olympiacos.
