Southampton manager Russell Martin has dismissed suggestions that £21 million would be an acceptable fee for young talent Tyler Dibling, amid growing interest from Manchester United and other clubs.
Dibling, 18, has been one of the few bright spots for Southampton during their challenging return to the Premier League. With 16 appearances this season, he has scored once and provided two assists, and has recently cemented his place as the first-choice right winger. His versatility, allowing him to play in several positions, has made him an attractive prospect for top clubs.
Manchester United, Aston Villa, and several clubs across Germany and Italy are reportedly eyeing a move for Dibling, with the January transfer window approaching. However, Martin has strongly refuted claims that the teenager could be sold for £21 million, a figure suggested in some media reports.
“I heard rumors about a £21m bid from Manchester United, but I’m not sure you could even get his left foot for that price,” Martin said. “We’ve offered Tyler a very good contract for someone his age, but his agent doesn’t seem to agree. That’s where things stand right now.”

Martin also revealed that discussions with Dibling and his family are ongoing. “Tyler wants it done, and so do his parents. But the negotiations are handled by Phil Parsons and the owners,” Martin explained. “We’re offering him an extension, but we want to reward him for his performances. We’ll see how long this takes.”
With two years left on his current contract, Dibling’s future is uncertain, but Southampton is keen to keep the promising winger. Meanwhile, Manchester United’s new manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that he plans to be active in the upcoming winter window, although he emphasized the importance of focusing on improving the current squad.
Amorim has faced a challenging start to his tenure at Old Trafford and has made it clear that before delving into transfers, he aims to address key issues within the squad. “We need to focus on improving our players, enhancing the Academy, and defining clear player profiles before we move forward with buying or selling,” said Amorim. “Our immediate focus is on winning games and improving the team’s performance.”
As the January window approaches, it remains to be seen whether Dibling will make a move, with Southampton determined to retain the talent that has shone in a difficult season for the club.
