Rodri’s Eight-Word Remark Highlights Mohamed Salah’s Importance Amid Contract Uncertainty

Rodri’s praise for Mohamed Salah has underscored the Egyptian forward’s ongoing significance to Liverpool, particularly as the 32-year-old’s contract situation continues to stir debate.

Despite missing the crucial Premier League clash against Liverpool due to an ACL injury, Rodri’s words about Salah’s impact spoke volumes. The Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder was absent as Manchester City fell 2-0 to Liverpool, leaving Pep Guardiola’s side nine points adrift at the top of the table. Salah’s pivotal performance included an assist for Cody Gakpo and a penalty in the second half, continuing his remarkable form this season with 13 goals and 11 assists to date.

However, it was Salah’s post-match comments that caught the attention. When asked about his future, the Liverpool star revealed his uncertainty, confirming that he has yet to receive an offer for a new contract. “Honestly, it’s in my head. Until now, this is the last City game I will play for, so I was just going to enjoy it,” Salah told Sky Sports. “The atmosphere was incredible, so I will enjoy every second here. Hopefully, we just win the league and will see what happens.”

Rodri, speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, recently highlighted Salah as one of his toughest-ever opponents, noting, “That prime Salah. I haven’t seen any player play that way – he was like a knife. Not that skilful like Neymar or Vinicius Jr., but a knife in terms of goal-scoring, assisting, etc.” Though Rodri referred to Salah’s peak form from a few years ago, the 2023-2024 season shows he is still operating at an elite level. This highlights the stakes for Liverpool as the contract saga drags on.

Rodri’s
Salah’s comments have fueled further speculation about his future after he previously expressed frustration over the lack of contract talks. Following a brace against Southampton last month, Salah candidly addressed his situation: “I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club. I’m probably more out than in. You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end, it is not in my hands.”

While the uncertainty lingers, Salah remains focused on his football. “I’m disappointed, but we will see,” he added. “I’m just trying to enjoy my football, and I will play at the top level as long as possible.”

Liverpool manager Arne Slot also weighed in, offering a more optimistic perspective. “When I look at my line-ups, Mo is more in than out,” he said, reassuring fans about Salah’s commitment.

Since joining Liverpool from Roma in 2017, Salah has enjoyed a stellar career, winning the Premier League, multiple Golden Boots, and Player of the Season awards. However, with his contract set to expire in 2025 and no new offer on the table, the question of his future remains one of the most pressing issues at Anfield.
