The Friedkin Group (TFG) has officially received approval from the Premier League to proceed with their takeover of Everton, paving the way for the American consortium to become the club’s new owners.
The regulatory process has been underway since TFG reached an agreement to purchase a 94.1% stake in the club from Farhad Moshiri, and they will finalize the deal next week. The Premier League Oversight Committee is expected to formally endorse the transaction, marking a significant step in Everton’s future.
The Friedkin Group, which is also the owner of Serie A club Roma, initially made a move to acquire Everton last summer but withdrew after expressing concerns over the club’s financial situation, particularly regarding loans from other investors. However, a revised agreement between Moshiri’s Blue Heaven Holdings and TFG has successfully passed the necessary regulatory checks.
Dan Friedkin, the billionaire behind the group, is valuing at $6.1 billion (£4.8 billion). Under his leadership, TFG looks to bring stability and growth to Everton, whose future has been uncertain due to a series of ownership challenges over the past few years.
Moshiri’s Legacy and Everton’s Future
People expect Farhad Moshiri, who has owned a majority stake in Everton since 2016, to leave the club in a stronger position than when he took over. Despite facing criticism over the club’s league performance during his tenure, people recognize Moshiri for his key decisions, including turning loans into equity and pushing through the development of a new stadium—a project that has faced considerable challenges.
“This deal will leave the club in a better place, certainly from the one he acquired, than many forecasters suggested,” said a source close to the deal. “Moshiri’s efforts, especially in ensuring the new stadium project moved forward, will be a part of his lasting legacy at Everton.”
While there have been several failed takeover attempts in the past, the approval of the Friedkin Group’s purchase brings renewed hope for Everton fans, signaling a brighter future ahead for the club. They expect to complete the deal next week, ending a long-running saga and ushering in a new era at Goodison Park.
