Barcelona Teams Up with Coldplay for Limited Edition Kit for El Clasico Against Real Madrid

FC Barcelona is set to don a unique limited edition kit for the upcoming El Clasico, featuring a design inspired by the iconic British band Coldplay. This collaboration marks another creative endeavor in the club’s partnership with Spotify, which sponsors both their jerseys and Camp Nou stadium.

Barcelona has a history of releasing special edition shirts, with past collaborations including designs that showcased the artwork of Catalan singer Rosalía and global superstars like Drake, Karol G, and the Rolling Stones. The latest partnership with Coldplay highlights the club’s commitment to blending sports with culture and music.

As reported by Sport, this collaboration reflects the long-standing relationship between the band and the club. Coldplay’s hit song “Viva La Vida” has been a staple at Camp Nou, often played during celebrations of the club’s titles, notably during Pep Guardiola’s successful tenure. The song also echoed through the stadium at the end of the 2022-23 season as preparations began for the stadium’s redevelopment. Coldplay’s guitarist Jonny Buckland expressed admiration for Barcelona, stating, “They were the best team on the planet at that time, and they played football from another galaxy. This song really took shape in Barcelona.”

Last year, the band even attended a Barcelona training session during their concert tour in the city, holding it at the club’s temporary home in Montjuïc while Camp Nou underwent renovations.

On the pitch, Barcelona continues to make waves this season, boasting an unbeaten record in La Liga with six wins out of six. However, they faced a setback in Europe when they lost to Monaco after going down to ten men early in the match. Barcelona currently sits atop the league table alongside Real Madrid, who remain unbeaten but have dropped points in away matches against Mallorca and Las Palmas.

In their latest league match, Barcelona showcased their attacking prowess with a resounding 5-1 victory over Villarreal, with Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha each netting two goals. However, a serious injury to goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen marred the win. The club released a statement confirming that ter Stegen underwent successful surgery for a patellar tendon injury in his right knee. He left the field in visible pain after awkwardly landing while catching a cross, leading to his replacement by Iñaki Peña.

As both teams gear up for the highly anticipated El Clasico, Barcelona’s collaboration with Coldplay adds an exciting layer to this storied rivalry.
