Mikel Arteta has put an end to speculation about his future by signing a new long-term contract with Arsenal, which will keep him at the club until 2027. The new deal extends his stay by three years beyond his previous contract, which would have expired in 2025.
Under Arteta’s stewardship, Arsenal has experienced a resurgence, securing consecutive second-place finishes in the Premier League. Since taking over from Unai Emery midway through the 2019-20 season. Arteta has played a crucial role in restoring the team’s competitive edge. This season has begun promisingly for the Gunners, with an unbeaten start that includes two-victories and a draw against Brighton.
The announcement of Arteta’s contract extension comes at a significant time, just before a crucial North London derby against Tottenham. Arsenal will face their rivals with a few key absences; Declan Rice is suspended, and Martin Ødegaard is expected to miss out due to injury.
Earlier in August, Arteta addressed concerns about his future, assuring fans that there was no need to worry. He stated, “I don’t think anybody has to panic. We have done it in the past, and it has never been an issue— I don’t expect that to happen.” Arteta emphasized that his focus had been on the transfer window and the team’s preparation. “I’m in the place where I want to be and am really happy—hopefully, the club thinks the same thing.”

Arteta’s contract renewal follows the departure of another long-standing Premier League manager, Jürgen Klopp, who left Liverpool last summer. The future of Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola also remains a topic of interest, as his contract is set to expire in 2025. Guardiola has hinted at the possibility of extending his stay beyond the current term but has indicated that he will carefully consider his decision.
Guardiola remarked in January, “Next year will be nine seasons, which is a lot of time. Extending after two years is not the same as extending after nine. We have a lot of time [to decide].” He further stated in July that he remains open to the idea of extending his tenure at Manchester City, stating, “When I’m leaving, I will say I’m leaving. But I didn’t say it.”
With Arteta’s new deal now in place, Arsenal fans can look forward to continued stability and progress under his leadership. As the club aims to build on its recent successes and compete at the highest level.
