Manchester United Face Delay in Hiring Dan Ashworth from Newcastle United

Dan Ashworth, who assumed the role of sporting director at Newcastle in early 2022, has drawn attention from Manchester United following the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe at Old Trafford. Under Ashworth’s guidance, Newcastle has made significant strides in recruitment, culminating in their qualification for this season’s Champions League and high-profile signings such as Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento.

However, the possibility of Ashworth’s departure has raised concerns for Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, who hinted at Ashworth’s knowledge of the club’s upcoming transfer plans. The pursuit of Ashworth by Manchester United may not be straightforward, as reports suggest that his gardening leave period is longer than initially anticipated.

Newcastle is adamant about not letting Ashworth go without a substantial fee, and Manchester United faces a decision between meeting their asking price or waiting until 2026. Ashworth reportedly expressed his desire to leave Newcastle after their recent draw with Bournemouth.

Despite Manchester United’s interest in Ashworth, the club has recently appointed Omar Berrada as CEO, while they have considered former Manchester City academy director Jason Wilcox for the role of technical director. Wilcox, currently with Southampton, has downplayed speculation linking him to Manchester United, affirming his commitment to his current role.
