Man Utd Transfer Update: De Ligt and Mazraoui Medicals Completed, Barcelona Turn Down De Jong Bid

Manchester United stepped up their pre-season activities with significant transfer developments over the weekend, both on and off the pitch.

On Saturday, United secured deals with Bayern Munich to acquire defensive pair Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui for a total of £51.5 million. This announcement came just before United’s Community Shield clash against Manchester City at Wembley. Despite Alejandro Garnacho’s late goal putting United ahead, a Bernardo Silva equalizer and missed penalties from Jadon Sancho and Jonny Evans saw City win the shootout.

The following day saw Aaron Wan-Bissaka heading to London for his £15 million move to West Ham. Meanwhile, United’s transfer activity extended beyond these ins and outs.

Trio Undergo Medicals

Monday was a busy day for Manchester United’s medical staff. Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui arrived at Carrington for their medicals after flying in from Germany. The Bayern Munich defenders were seen entering United’s training complex before 10 am. Meanwhile, Aaron Wan-Bissaka began his medical with West Ham in London. The 26-year-old is set to be replaced by Mazraoui, who can also play at left-back.

Barcelona Reject De Jong Bid

Manchester United have reportedly renewed their interest in Frenkie de Jong. After an unsuccessful pursuit in 2022, the Red Devils are said to have recently made a €50 million (£42.9 million) offer for the Barcelona midfielder. However, Spanish outlet Nacional reports that Barcelona have turned down the bid. The Catalan club, facing financial challenges, is reportedly open to offers for the 27-year-old Dutch international.

In other news, Casemiro’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain amid interest from Saudi Arabian clubs. Despite a dip in form last season and speculation about a move, Sky Sports indicates that no Saudi side has shown strong interest yet. The 32-year-old Brazilian has two years left on his £350,000-a-week contract, and United would need to find a replacement if he were to depart.
