Manchester United are prepared to let winger Jadon Sancho depart Old Trafford for £40 million. The club had previously maintained a £50 million price tag following the winger’s fallout with manager Erik ten Hag. However, reports now indicate that United plan to sell the 24-year-old regardless of the managerial situation next season, with the transfer fee aiding compliance with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations.
Sancho experienced a successful loan spell with Borussia Dortmund in the latter half of the 2023/24 season, contributing to the team’s run to the Champions League final. Despite this, the German club is reportedly more interested in another loan deal rather than a permanent transfer.
The reduced price will result in a significant loss for United, who signed Sancho for £73 million and still have two years remaining on his contract. Since joining in 2021, Sancho has scored 12 goals and provided six assists for the club.
Sancho had initially shown a willingness to return to Manchester this summer, hoping to revive his career at United. However, it became clear that his future in the northwest is bleak under Ten Hag’s management.
Despite his reluctance to abandon his United career, Sancho still aspires to compete at the highest level. His recent performances with Dortmund, especially reaching the Champions League final against Real Madrid at Wembley, have reinforced this ambition.
European clubs, including Juventus, have already noted interest. This move provides more clarity for Sancho’s future compared to the uncertain managerial situation at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag’s fate remains undecided, even after leading United to an FA Cup victory over rivals Manchester City. Officials expected to make a decision on his continuation promptly after the season’s conclusion, but they have delayed it.
In the meantime, United’s hierarchy, including Sir Jim Ratcliffe, reportedly met with Thomas Tuchel to discuss the possibility of him taking charge. However, the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager has declined any interest in the role at the Premier League club.
