Lyon has issued a scathing statement accusing West Ham of “incomprehensible behavior” and a “profound lack of respect” after Said Benrahma’s loan move collapsed due to alleged failure in completing administrative procedures on FIFA’s transfer matching system.
The French club, owned by John Textor, a Crystal Palace minor shareholder, claimed that West Ham did not initiate any technical procedures on FIFA TMS, despite repeated reminders. Lyon expressed deep regret over the failed transfer and questioned West Ham’s behavior.
According to Lyon’s statement, the two clubs had signed a temporary transfer agreement, and Lyon had entered all the administrative data on FIFA TMS. However, West Ham allegedly neglected to take any reciprocal action, hindering the request for the international transfer certificate before the deadline.
Lyon reserved the right to initiate procedures to validate the transaction after the fact and to hold West Ham responsible if necessary. Meanwhile, Real Betis, set to sign Pablo Fornals from West Ham, also claimed that technical errors prevented the completion of the deal and is exploring the possibility of an appeal to FIFA.
We-st Ham confirmed that the Benrahma move was not concluded ahead of the deadline due to an inability to complete the deal before 11 pm. Complicating the alleged administrative hiccup, We-st Ham’s involvement in Premier League action saw them draw 1-1 at home against Bournemouth.
The statement from Lyon adds another layer of controversy to the transfer saga, highlighting the complexities and challenges associated with deadline-day dealings in football.
