Former Liverpool player Luis Alberto has made a surprising request, asking Lazio to terminate his contract so he can pursue opportunities elsewhere.
Luis Alberto’s stint at Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers was marked by disappointment. Making only 12 appearances during his three-year spell at Anfield. After unsuccessful loan spells, Liverpool eventually sold him to Lazio in 2016 for £4.2 million.
However, Alberto’s career took a positive turn in Serie A, where he became a key figure for Lazio. Amassing over 300 appearances and winning the Coppa Italia. Despite signing a new contract with Lazio in October, Alberto now seeks to depart from the Italian club.

The decision comes amidst a challenging season for Lazio, who currently sit seventh in the Serie A table, far from Champions League qualification. Following a recent defeat to Roma, Alberto expressed his desire to move on from the club.
In a statement after Lazio’s win over Salernitana, Alberto announced his intention to leave the club and relinquish his contract. Stating, “I don’t want to take one more Euro from Lazio. I think it is only right now to step aside.” Alberto also expressed gratitude towards the club and its fans, emphasizing his commitment to giving his best until the end of his tenure.
With three years remaining on his contract, it remains to be seen how Lazio will respond to Alberto’s request. Nevertheless, Alberto’s decision marks a significant development in his career as he looks to explore new opportunities elsewhere.
