Liverpool is poised for a seamless transition following Jurgen Klopp’s departure, thanks to new manager Arne Slot and a revamped football structure. The club has overhauled its coaching setup, reintroduced Michael Edwards as the head of football operations. And appointed Richard Hughes from Bournemouth as sporting director.
Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan emphasized that maintaining Champions League qualification is a key objective for the club. “From Arne’s perspective, he understands the club’s goals, which are ultimately driven towards success. We want to win trophies, and Champions League qualification is a target every season,” Hogan said.
Slot, who takes over from Klopp, inherits a squad that Klopp has left in excellent shape. Under Klopp’s tenure, Liverpool secured the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and two League Cups. Therefore, Slot must now ensure the team remains competitive with Manchester City and Arsenal, who are at the top of the Premier League and in European competitions.
Hogan expressed confidence in the new setup, stating, “Change brings opportunity, and I think we are seeing that with the new ideas Slot is introducing. He mentioned that while there will be unique elements to his system compared to the previous one. The aim is always to advance the club.”

Liverpool’s pre-season tour in the USA includes matches against Arsenal and Manchester United. With Slot’s first game at Anfield scheduled for Sunday, August 11, against Sevilla. The team will then prepare for their Premier League opener against newly-promoted Ipswich Town.
In recent pre-season friendlies, Liverpool experienced a 1-0 loss to Preston North End but secured a 1-0 victory over Real Betis in Pittsburgh, with Dominik Szoboszlai scoring the decisive goal. The squad for these matches primarily featured fringe players and academy prospects.
