Israel winger Liel Abada, 22, has made a surprising move to Charlotte FC for a reported £8m fee, signing a deal until 2026.
Abada expressed his departure from Celtic was not part of his plans, attributing it to life’s unpredictable nature. He cited personal challenges and the conflict in Gaza as contributing factors, which led to him facing pressure from compatriots and sitting out Celtic’s recent games.
Despite the unexpected turn, Liel Abada expressed gratitude to Celtic, highlighting the unwavering support he received from the club’s management and fans during his two and a half years at the club. He reminisced about his successful tenure at Celtic, winning domestic trophies and cherishing memorable moments on the pitch.
Having joined Celtic in 2021 from Maccabi Petah Tikva, Abada made significant contributions under Ange Postecoglou, scoring 28 goals and providing 20 assists. However, injuries and recent events limited his playing time, prompting a change in scenery.
Now embarking on a new chapter with Charlotte FC, Abada aims to make an impact alongside former Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield. Charlotte FC’s general manager, Zoran Krnet, praised Abada’s talent and determination, emphasizing his potential to contribute to the team’s success in the MLS.
