Kieran McKenna Addresses Rumors Linking Him to Chelsea Job

Kieran McKenna has acknowledged the speculation surrounding his future amid links to Chelsea and Manchester United.

The Ipswich Town manager has gained attention for his impressive work at Portman Road, guiding the club to consecutive promotions from League One to the Premier League. Chelsea has identified McKenna as a potential successor to Mauricio Pochettino. Who parted ways with the club by mutual agreement on Tuesday.

After being named the LMA Manager of the Year, McKenna addressed the rumors about his future. He remarked that such speculation is natural following a successful run.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the 38-year-old said: “The club’s had such a positive season and has a bright future ahead. We’ve achieved so much; it’s been an incredible two years. When you have those two years, there’s always speculation and things like that every summer.

“But I know how much everyone’s looking forward to the season. The club is on a fantastic path, and everyone’s just really looking forward to the season ahead. When you do well as a manager or as a player, there’s always going to be speculation. What we’ve achieved isn’t ordinary, so of course there’s going to be speculation.

“But that’s not where my focus is, to be honest. Tonight, it’s about what we’ve achieved last season and over the last couple of seasons, not just myself but everyone at the football club.

“It’s been a wonderful couple of years, so tonight’s about celebrating that. I know everyone’s looking forward to next season, and the club’s going to be in a really good place going into that season.”

Besides Chelsea and Manchester United, McKenna has also attracted interest from Premier League rivals Brighton, following Roberto De Zerbi’s departure from the Amex Stadium.

McKenna has one year remaining on his current contract. However, he is just one of many names in the mix during what promises to be a busy summer for managerial changes.

Pochettino is also considered a candidate for the Manchester United job if Erik ten Hag is dismissed. Chelsea’s list of potential managers includes Thomas Frank, Sebastian Hoeness, Enzo Maresca, Michel, and Vincent Kompany.
