Liverpool’s disappointing 3-0 loss to Atalanta at Anfield has prompted to assess the performances of certain players and make crucial decisions moving forward.
After the defeat, Klopp openly acknowledged his team’s shortcomings, particularly in their tactical positioning and overall performance. He admitted that several players didn’t meet expectations and appeared isolated during crucial moments of the game.
Among those singled out for criticism were Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones, and Kostas Tsimikas. While Elliott was unfortunate not to score with a near miss, Tsimikas’s display was notably below par, lacking the form and fitness he had previously demonstrated during Andy Robertson’s absence.
Similarly, goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher’s performance left much to be desired, indicating that it might be time for regular starter Alisson Becker to reclaim his place in the lineup.
With Alisson and Robertson returning to full fitness, Klopp faces the task of reinstating them into the starting XI to bolster the team’s solidity and defensive stability for the remainder of the season.
Although Klopp’s rotation strategy backfired against Atalanta, he now has a clear directive to prioritize his strongest lineup moving forward, except perhaps in secondary competitions like the Bergamo second leg.
