Josh Cavallo has expressed disappointment in Jordan Henderson’s decision to join Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, calling it “silly” and questioning the sincerity of Henderson’s previous messages of support.
Cavallo, who made headlines as the first openly gay top-flight footballer in October 2021, received messages of support from Henderson at the time. However, Cavallo now feels let down by Henderson’s actions, especially considering the midfielder’s vocal support for the Rainbow Laces campaign.
In an exclusive interview with Mirror Football, Cavallo stated, “When you put your hand up and say ‘I’m an ally’ or congratulating someone, there’s more to just sending that message. You have the responsibility then to actually action that message.” He expressed disappointment in Henderson’s move to Saudi Arabia and suggested that it contradicted the values and morals he had previously espoused.

Furthermore, Cavallo revealed that he has not heard from Henderson since coming out, leading him to feel as though Henderson has turned his back on him. Despite this, Cavallo remains determined to continue advocating for the LGBT+ community and urged other allies to speak up against homophobia.
Cavallo emphasized the importance of allies actively supporting the cause, especially during times of need. He highlighted the serious consequences faced by LGBT+ individuals in countries where speaking out could lead to severe punishment, including the death penalty.
In conclusion, Cavallo stressed the significance of using his platform to create awareness and protection for the LGBT+ community, urging others to join him in advocating for equality and acceptance.
