Former England international Joe Cole has expressed confidence in England’s chances of winning Euro 2024, suggesting that divine intervention could play a role in their success.
Despite England’s history of underachievement in major tournaments, Cole believes that the current squad has the quality to overcome past disappointments. Reflecting on his own experiences of heartache in international competitions, Cole emphasized the importance of luck in football and suggested that the Three Lions are due for some good fortune.
Under the management of Gareth Southgate, England has faced several painful exits from tournaments, often succumbing to defeats in penalty shootouts. However, Cole is optimistic that the team’s luck will change this year and that they have a genuine chance of lifting the European Championship trophy.

Cole highlighted England’s strength in various areas of the pitch, including their attacking prowess with players like Harry Kane, Phil Foden, and Cole Palmer. He also noted improvements in the team’s overall performance and resilience, suggesting that they are well-positioned for success.
While acknowledging the quality of other contenders such as Belgium, France, and Germany, Cole singled out England, France, and Germany as the main contenders for the title. He emphasized the need for England to play with freedom and confidence, relying on their attacking talent to outscore opponents.
In terms of defensive options, Cole defended Harry Maguire’s inclusion in the squad despite his lack of playing time at Manchester United, praising his contributions to the England team in previous tournaments.
Looking ahead to the tournament, Cole encouraged England to adopt an attacking mindset and play to their strengths, believing that their abundance of attacking talent will be key to their success.
Cole shared his thoughts during an event to mark the launch of Topps’ official UEFA EURO 2024™ sticker collection, highlighting his optimism for England’s prospects in the upcoming European Championship.
