Jason Wilcox Set to Depart Southampton for Manchester United Amid Overhaul

Southampton manager Russell Martin has acknowledged that Jason Wilcox is on the verge of leaving the club to join Manchester United.

Wilcox, currently Southampton’s director of football, has attracted interest from United as they undergo a restructuring following Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS’s involvement. United recently appointed Omar Berrada from Manchester City as their new chief executive and are pursuing Dan Ashworth from Newcastle for the role of sporting director.

Wilcox is being targeted to serve as the technical director under Ashworth, although Southampton has expressed frustration over United’s approach. Despite Southampton’s resistance, Wilcox is eager to make the move after joining the club from Manchester City last summer.

While there have been some hurdles in the negotiation process, Martin has come to terms with Wilcox’s imminent departure.

Speaking at a press conference, Martin stated, “It affects me and his coaching staff the most because he brought us into the club. However, it hasn’t impacted the players or our work processes.”

He continued, praising Wilcox’s contributions to Southampton’s culture change and expressing gratitude for his support. Martin also acknowledged the ongoing legal considerations between the clubs.

Wilcox, who previously worked at Manchester City as an academy director, joined Southampton last year, focusing on player development. His anticipated move to United marks another step in his career progression.

Former Blackburn winger Wilcox’s departure from Southampton represents a significant change as United seek to bolster their management team.
