AC Milan and Bologna have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Italian Cup following dominant victories in their respective Round of 16 matches.
Milan delivered an emphatic 6-1 victory over Serie B leaders Sassuolo, while Bologna cruised past struggling Serie A side Monza with a 4-0 win.
Milan will face either Roma or Sampdoria in the next stage, while Bologna will play the winner of the upcoming Atalanta vs. Cesena clash.
The match at San Siro on Tuesday was effectively decided in the first 23 minutes as Milan surged to a commanding lead. Samuel Chukwueze scored twice, with additional goals from Tijjani Reijnders and Rafael Leão. Despite making several changes to the lineup, including four substitutions at halftime, Milan maintained their momentum, extending their advantage through goals from Davide Calabria and Tammy Abraham. Sassuolo managed a consolation goal through Samuele Mulattieri, but the game was already out of reach.
Bologna, meanwhile, had a strong showing in their 4-0 win over Monza. They scored two goals in each half, with Tommaso Pobega and Riccardo Orsolini finding the net before the break. In the second half, Benjamín Domínguez and Santiago Castro added further goals to seal the comprehensive win. However, Bologna suffered a blow when Orsolini limped off the field shortly after scoring. The injury to their top scorer, who has six goals this season, is now a concern as the club awaits further updates.
Both Milan and Bologna will be looking to continue their strong performances as they progress in the competition, with the quarterfinals set to take place next week.
