India’s national football team will take on Vietnam in a one-off friendly match on October 12, following Lebanon’s unexpected withdrawal from the scheduled tri-nation friendly tournament. The match will be held at the Thiên Trường Stadium in Nam Định and is officially recognized, with points from the game contributing to the FIFA Rankings.
Originally, the fixture list included an encounter against Vietnam on October 9 and a subsequent match against Lebanon on October 12. However, Lebanon’s withdrawal altered these plans, leading to this standalone friendly.
India’s head coach Manolo Márquez has already outlined his strategy for the upcoming match, which is crucial for the team’s preparation and ranking. The squad will gather in Kolkata on October 5, where they will hold a training session the following day. Afterward, the team will depart for Vietnam on October 7, continuing their training regimen in the host country.
On October 2, Márquez announced a provisional list of 26 players who have a chance to make the final cut. The team will unveil a final squad of 23 players before their departure, setting the stage for an exciting matchup against the Vietnamese side.
