Former Spanish Football Association president Luis Rubiales has attributed the legal challenges he faces, including potential prison time, to his gender, claiming that being a man has led to his current predicament. Rubiales made these remarks in response to ongoing charges related to last summer’s “kissgate” scandal involving Spanish international Jennifer Hermoso.
Rubiales, who resigned from his position following the incident, faces accusations of sexual assault and coercion stemming from an incident during the Women’s World Cup. Prosecutors seek a two and a half year jail term for Rubiales over his alleged actions, which Hermoso maintains involved an “unsolicited” kiss and subsequent attempts at coercion.

While Rubiales defends his actions and questions the validity of the charges, he believes his gender has played a significant role in his legal troubles. He expressed frustration with what he perceives as an attack on his freedom of thought and criticized what he termed “false feminism.”
Rubiales emphasized his belief in egalitarianism and denied any criminal wrong doing, asserting that his interactions with Hermoso were brief and non threatening. Despite facing mounting legal challenges and public scrutiny, Rubiales maintains his innocence and vows to defend his position.
The ongoing legal proceedings under score the complexities surrounding gender dynamics and allegations of misconduct, highlight the importance of thorough investigations and fair treatment for all parties involved.
