Wolves Eye Loan Deal for Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale with Future Buy Option

Wolverhampton Wanderers have put forward a loan offer to Arsenal for goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, with a proposal that includes an option to buy the 26-year-old next summer.

Gary O’Neil’s side is vying for Ramsdale’s signature amid interest from other clubs. Arsenal, however, are reportedly more inclined towards a permanent sale this transfer window. Ajax recently had a loan bid turned down, and Premier League rivals Southampton and Bournemouth have also shown interest.

Ramsdale, who joined Arsenal from Sheffield United in the summer of 2021, has previously played for Bournemouth and returned to Sheffield United before his move to the Gunners. He has earned five caps for England and is keen to remain in top-flight football if he departs Arsenal.

Wolves face a challenging task in finalizing the deal due to the financial implications, as Ramsdale is under contract with Arsenal until 2026. The Gunners are open to selling the goalkeeper this summer, given that David Raya is now their primary choice following his permanent transfer from Brentford.

Arsenal had previously made an attempt to sign Wolves’ backup goalkeeper Dan Bentley to bolster their squad with a homegrown player. The Gunners’ £50,000 offer for Bentley was rejected, and it remains to be seen if this interest will influence Wolves’ pursuit of Ramsdale. Bentley was a substitute for Wolves in their recent 2-0 loss at Arsenal, with José Sá starting in goal.

Despite the recent sales of Pedro Neto and Maximilian Kilman for a combined total of £94 million, O’Neil has indicated that Wolves’ budget constraints remain. “The budget doesn’t seem too different from last season,” O’Neil said. “The club is still not in a position to spend freely.”
