Swiss third-division club FC Granges-Paccot has confirmed the tragic passing of 24-year-old footballer Jakov Jelkic, who was found dead after going missing during a trip to Alicante, Spain.
Jelkic had traveled to Spain with his teammates for a tournament and was reportedly last seen leaving a nightclub. Authorities believe he fell into the sea after exiting a bar, failing to return to his hotel. Concerned staff reported him missing, prompting a desperate social media appeal from his family.
Spanish police later confirmed that his body was recovered from the waters of Alicante port on Monday evening at approximately 5:30 p.m. His death has been classified as accidental.
