Joshua Zirkzee is reportedly keen on a January move to Juventus, just months after his summer transfer to Manchester United from Bologna. The 23-year-old Netherlands international has struggled to find his form at Old Trafford, scoring only once in 18 appearances, although he netted a brace in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Everton.
Despite his recent performance, speculation surrounding Zirkzee’s future has intensified, with Italian media suggesting the striker is interested in joining Juventus. One factor behind this desire is the appointment of Thiago Motta, Zirkzee’s former manager at Bologna, as the new boss in Turin. Motta is reportedly eager to strengthen his squad during the winter transfer window, with Zirkzee and former teammate Lewis Ferguson identified as potential reinforcements, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
Juventus is believed to be considering a loan move for Zirkzee, which might be a more feasible option for Manchester United than selling him outright after only a few months. The Red Devils spent £36 million to bring Zirkzee to England, making a quick departure unlikely without a solid arrangement in place.
However, United’s current attacking depth may complicate any potential transfer. With Rasmus Hojlund the only other recognized striker in the squad, manager Ruben Amorim may be reluctant to part with Zirkzee, especially after showing confidence in him during Sunday’s win. Despite Hojlund’s midweek brace against Bodo/Glimt, Amorim opted to start Zirkzee against Everton, a decision that paid off with the striker’s two-goal performance.
Speaking before the match, Amorim expressed his faith in Zirkzee’s abilities: “He is a talented player. He is a Manchester United player, and I think he’s ready for that position. I think we need the characteristics of Josh in this game; they [Everton] have two centre-backs who are strong in the air, and I want someone more technical who can reach the ball in different areas.”
As Zirkzee continues to adapt to life at United, his future remains uncertain, with his January move to Juventus appearing more plausible by the day.
