Ibrahima Konaté has shared a personal story about Mohamed Salah that highlights his teammate’s remarkable composure in the face of discrimination. The incident, which took place in Paris, left Konaté in awe of Salah’s patience and restraint when confronted with ignorance.

Konaté, who plays for both Liverpool and the French national team, recounted his own experiences with discrimination. He described an instance where, at Charles-de-Gaulle Airport, despite holding a business ticket that should have allowed him to bypass the regular queue, security directed him to the standard line. “What’s the message behind that?” Konaté wondered, highlighting the subtle but significant bias he encounters as a Black player.

However, it was Salah’s experience in a Parisian store that stood out to Konaté. The Egyptian international, despite being one of the world’s most famous footballers, store employees initially ignored him and spoke to him in a “discriminatory tone.” When another customer recognized Salah, the employees’ attitude shifted dramatically. “The tone changed radically: ‘Ah, Mr. Salah, what do you need?’” Konaté recounted, emphasizing how the level of respect given to an individual often depends on their public status.

Konaté praised Salah’s response to such incidents, describing him as “an extremely patient person.” Salah, who is known for his composed demeanor both on and off the pitch, handled the situation without reacting outwardly, accepting the reality of the world he lives in while maintaining his dignity.

Konaté also reflected on his own current situation at Liverpool, with his contract set to expire in 2026. While he is in discussions about a potential new deal, Salah’s contract remains a key issue for the club. The Egyptian forward, who is Liverpool’s top scorer this season, recently revealed that the club has not offered him a new deal, with his current contract expiring at the end of the season.
