Claudio Echeverri has officially joined Manchester City after his £12.5 million move from River Plate, and the young Argentine star revealed he sought advice from Sergio Aguero before making the switch.
🎙️ “Aguero is a Legend” – Echeverri
The 19-year-old midfielder, who captained Argentina to a runners-up finish at the 2025 South American U-20 Championship, is now training under Pep Guardiola after spending the first half of the year on loan at River Plate.
💬 “I spoke to Aguero, I knew about the special connection between Argentina and Manchester City,” Echeverri said.
💬 “Aguero is a legend here because of everything he achieved and the incredible player he was.”
🔙 From River Plate to the Etihad 🏟️

Echeverri made his senior debut under former Man City defender Martin Demichelis in June 2023, scoring four goals in 48 appearances for River Plate.
🌟 “Football has been my life, and my dream was to play for one of the best teams in Europe. Today, I am closer to that dream,” he added.
🌟 “Manchester City don’t just win trophies – they play the game so beautifully. They set an example for the world.”
🏆 City’s Argentine Connection 🇦🇷

Echeverri becomes the 12th Argentine to sign for City, following the likes of Julian Alvarez, who made a similar switch from River Plate in 2022 before leaving for Atletico Madrid in an £81m deal.
🔹 Txiki Begiristain, City’s director of football, praised the teenager’s potential:
💬 “Claudio is one of the finest talents to emerge from South America in recent years.”
💬 “His touch, technique, eye for goal, and dribbling ability are all exceptional. If he works hard, listens to Pep, and gives everything, there’s no reason he can’t become a top player.”
🔜 What’s Next for Echeverri?
With his City career now underway, fans will be eager to see if the young Argentine sensation can follow in Aguero’s footsteps and become a club legend himself.
