Cristiano Ronaldo Hints at Retirement Timeline, “My son tells me: Dad, hold on few more years, I want to play with you!”

Cristiano Ronaldo has provided new insight into his potential retirement plans, stating that his decision will largely depend on his motivation to continue playing. The 38-year-old football icon, who is currently thriving with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, is nearing his 40th birthday but remains determined to play as long as he feels physically capable and mentally driven.

Speaking candidly about his future, Ronaldo said, “I just want to enjoy. Plan for retirement… if it has to happen, in one or two years… I don’t know. I’m turning 40 soon… I really want to enjoy, as long as I feel motivated, I’ll keep going. The day I don’t feel motivated, I will retire.”

Ronaldo’s longevity in the game has been remarkable, especially given his evolution from a winger to a prolific striker. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner continues to defy expectations, scoring more goals after his 30th birthday than before it. And has remained committed to maintaining his peak physical form, which has allowed him to extend his playing career.

The Portuguese forward is also closing in on a significant milestone—scoring his 1,000th career goal. However, he would likely need several more seasons to reach that landmark. On a more personal note, Ronaldo shared that his son, who is currently in the Al-Nassr academy, has been encouraging him to continue playing. “My son tells me: Dad, hold on few more years, I want to play with you!” Ronaldo revealed in 2022.

In addition to his club success, Ronaldo remains a key player for Portugal, recently scoring twice in a 5-1 victory over Poland. Further solidifying his status as the all-time leading goal scorer in international football. Despite his achievements, he emphasized that his decision to retire from international duty would be a spontaneous one, stating, “When I decide to leave the national team, I’ll do it spontaneously but thoughtfully. There won’t be any advance announcements.”

As for his post-retirement plans, Ronaldo has ruled out a future in management, a common path for many retired greats. He explained, “I don’t see myself managing a team; that’s not in my plans. My future lies in other areas outside of football, although time will tell what happens.”

For now, Ronaldo is focused on continuing to play at the highest level, with no immediate plans to hang up his boots. As long as he remains motivated, fans can expect the legendary forward to keep pursuing excellence on the pitch.
