Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has expressed his gratitude to Ruud van Nistelrooy following the Dutchman’s departure from the club. United confirmed on Monday evening that Van Nistelrooy, who had been serving as interim head coach after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, would be leaving Old Trafford.

In a statement, the club praised the former striker for his contributions during his brief spell in charge. “Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend,” the statement read. “We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.”

Casemiro, who had been under Van Nistelrooy’s leadership for just four matches, took to social media to share his sentiments. On Instagram, the Brazilian midfielder posted a simple yet heartfelt message, captioning a photo with, “Forever grateful. Legend.”

The message came shortly after Casemiro highlighted the renewed sense of optimism at Old Trafford, following a string of positive performances under Van Nistelrooy’s interim tenure. He had previously shared his excitement on social media, saying: “Feeling the red passion in Old Trafford!!” following the team’s 3-0 win over Leicester, where he delivered a standout performance, making seven tackles—second only to his midfield partner Manuel Ugarte.

As United bids farewell to Van Nistelrooy, attention now turns to Ruben Amorim, the club’s newly appointed head coach. Amorim began his tenure on Monday and will look to build on United’s recent resurgence. His first match in charge will be against Ipswich on Sunday, November 24.

Speaking about the new manager, Casemiro expressed optimism for the future, noting Amorim’s success at Sporting CP. “The best thing is that everyone speaks highly of him,” Casemiro said. “He marked an era at Sporting, winning titles and competing with the top teams in Portugal. He will have an exceptional group here who want to continue growing and learning. We are excited to start this new chapter with him.”

Manchester United, currently sitting in 13th place in the Premier League, are just four points off the Champions League spots. With a busy schedule ahead in the Premier League, Carabao Cup, and Europa League, United will be hoping to continue their unbeaten run under Amorim and climb up the table.
