Manchester United winger Amad Diallo has publicly apologized to fans following a tumultuous year for the club. The 22-year-old Ivorian expressed gratitude to supporters while acknowledging that apologies alone cannot make up for the team’s struggles, as United enter 2025 under mounting pressure.
United concluded a dismal 2024 with a string of defeats, including five losses in December alone. A 3-1 defeat to Newcastle marked the end of a year rife with managerial upheaval and inconsistency, leaving the Red Devils in the bottom half of the Premier League.
In a candid social media post, Amad admitted the difficulties of the past year, writing:
“A very difficult year, apologising is not enough… but you have supported us and continued to do so throughout all this time… thank you.”
Despite the team’s collective challenges, Amad has emerged as a bright spot. His standout performance in the Manchester derby helped secure the team’s only league victory in their last six matches. With five goals to his name this season, he has been one of the few players to earn praise during United’s decline.
Head coach Ruben Amorim has openly admitted that relegation is a possibility, with United sitting just seven points above the drop zone. The introduction of a new 3-4-3 formation has yet to yield results, but Amad has thrived individually under the system.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Amad reflected on his increased involvement:
“Maybe it’s confidence because now I’m playing a lot of games. I’ve always had this desire, but regular game time helps. I just want to fight for the club and show I can play here every time the manager gives me a chance.”
Former United defender Gary Neville has praised Amad’s efforts, describing him as the only player showing “freedom, energy, enthusiasm, tenacity, and belief” expected of a Premier League footballer at the club.
