Lionel Messi has revealed that his time at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) was far from enjoyable, admitting he struggled to adapt after leaving Barcelona in 2021. The Inter Miami star reflected on his challenging two-year spell in France, highlighting how it influenced his decision to move to Major League Soccer (MLS).
🎙️ Messi on PSG: ‘I Didn’t Enjoy It’
In a recent interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Messi opened up about his difficulties in Paris 🇫🇷.
“I wasn’t happy on a daily basis, with training, with matches. I had a hard time adapting.”
Messi’s move to PSG came after an unexpected departure from Barcelona, where he spent 17 seasons 🏆, winning 35 titles, including 4 Champions Leagues, 10 La Liga titles, and 7 Copa del Reys. The sudden transition to a new club and lifestyle took a toll on him.
🇺🇸 Why Inter Miami Was the Right Move

Messi, who joined Inter Miami in 2023, expressed how different his experience has been in the MLS compared to PSG.
“I felt called to come to Inter Miami. It’s a club that’s growing, very new. It was quite the opposite of what I experienced in Paris.”
This isn’t the first time Messi has spoken about his difficulties in Paris. In his first press conference with Inter Miami, he admitted that he never wanted to leave Barcelona and found it hard to adjust to both PSG’s playing style and life in the French capital.
“Leaving Barcelona was an overnight decision. I had to get used to a different city, different people, and a different way of playing.”

Messi’s PSG chapter may not have been ideal, but his new journey in Miami seems to be bringing him joy on and off the pitch 🌴⚽. With the MLS season in full swing, fans will be eager to see how he continues to shape his legacy in the United States.
