Atletico Madrid has named Fernando Torres as the new manager of their reserve team, succeeding Luis García Tevenet, who has transitioned to Diego Simeone’s coaching staff at the Wanda Metropolitano. Torres, who previously led Atleti’s under-19 squad, brings a wealth of experience, having guided the team to multiple league titles and a notable performance in the UEFA Youth League.
Expressing his gratitude and determination, Torres emphasized the significance of this new role, viewing it as a crucial opportunity for growth and development. He acknowledged the responsibility entrusted to him and affirmed his commitment to continuous improvement.
One of Torres’ primary objectives is to nurture talent and prepare young players for the first team, instilling in them the ambition to represent Atletico Madrid at the highest level. He emphasized the importance of competition and ambition in shaping players’ readiness for the challenges ahead.

Torres’ journey into coaching saw him benefit from mentorship under former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, whom he shadowed during a visit to Merseyside. This experience, coupled with his recent observations of Premier League management, has provided valuable insights as Torres embarks on his coaching career.
While Torres remains focused on his current responsibilities, he has not ruled out the possibility of managing Liverpool in the future. However, he acknowledges the significance of taking one step at a time and embracing the learning curve associated with coaching.
As Torres assumes his new role at Atletico Madrid, his blend of experience as a player and mentorship under esteemed coaches like Klopp positions him well for success in his managerial journey.
